HIGH ACADEMIC STANDARDS
French Creek Elementary School students have performed well on both national and state measures of performance. The district is dedicated to providing the most current curriculum, low student teacher ratio and ongoing training in the latest strategies. Some specific details regarding our commitment to high academic standards include:
The average class size of classes in French Creek is small.
- Kindergarten and first grades are approximately 20
- Second and third grades are approximately 23
- Fourth and fifth grades are approximately 25
French Creek has Faculty Study Groups that meet regularly to plan and implement strategies to enhance the performance of our students. Each grade level meets weekly to coordinate the curriculum delivery between classes and share ideas.
CARING, NURTURING ENVIRONMENT
The French Creek School offers a wonderful, warm environment for students. Student projects and artwork fill the halls. Music fills the air and echoes softly from the music wing. However, the most impressive aspect of French Creek is how the students accept and treat each other. Special needs students are welcomed into all the classrooms and the playground. Parents work with the teachers to help the young transition to the new school year and make sure the kindergarten students arrive and depart safely. Energy and enthusiasm fill the classrooms and are evident as you stroll through the halls.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
One of the greatest features of French Creek School is the quality and number of extracurricular activities that exist.
Music-French Creek has one of the finest music programs of any elementary school. French Creek is renowned for the wonderful music and dance programs it presents. Students in the intermediate grades can participate in chorus and the hand bell choir. Beginning in third grade students have the opportunity to take string lessons, while band instrument instruction is offered to students beginning in fourth grade.
The students participate in a winter concert, a spring concert and several grade level programs. All students are exposed to a variety of concerts by professional and amateur musicians.
Sports- French Creek has an excellent Physical Education program. The classes are challenging and fun. Intermediate aged students can participate in a number of after school intramural activities that include: cross-country, soccer, street hockey, flag football, and basketball. The school hosts game days every spring.
Academic- French Creek has an excellent Odyssey of the Mind team. French Creek’s Odyssey of the Mind 2005 team placed first in the region and the state earning the privilege of competing at the World level. The school also offers several languages as after school activities sponsored by the PTA. |
SPECIAL NEEDS SERVICES
French Creek School is committed to ensuring that every student succeeds. The summer Kindercamp program prepares incoming kindergarten students for the academic year ahead. Extended Day Kindergarten helps keep all students progressing at the same pace.
French Creek also offers reading programs during the day for students that require a little extra help both in their classroom and outside of the classroom.
Services for autistic students are also provided. Learning support students can receive itinerant support, resource room instruction, and support within their regular classroom.
French Creek offers an excellent academically talented program that provides support for students that need to be challenged beyond the regular curriculum.
WELL QUALIFIED FACULTY
French Creek School is fortunate to have a strong faculty. The majority of teachers have obtained a Masters Degree in education. The district encourages continued growth and provides on-going training for all the staff.
PARENT TEACHER CONNECTION
One of the greatest assets of the French Creek School Community is the involvement of the parents. Parents volunteer to help in classrooms, monitor our school store, and provide special events. The school has a strong Parent Teacher Association that supports both curricular and extra-curricular activities. In addition to the many different types of support, the PTA runs unique programs that encourage students to explore their artistic talents and spend time with their families. Some of the special events the PTA sponsors are:

STATE OF THE ART FACILITY
The French Creek School is housed in a beautiful new building that offers the latest in technology and school design. The building offers security with controlled access to the building. The school features both large and small group instructional areas. The students have ample access to computers in any of the four computer labs. Small computer labs are located in many classrooms. Internet access is available in all classrooms.
The school is well maintained, clean and inviting. It is located in a picturesque location overlooking a valley of trees. French Creek is a beautiful school and a wonderful place to learn. |
